It is the search engines which bring traffic/visitors to your blog and especially if you want to earn through your blog then traffic is very important for you.
For blogger who use Google Adsense, the genuine visitors are important because according to Adsense terms and condition only clicks given by unique/ genuine visitors will earn. The click from returning visitors will earn nothing. For example a visitors arrives your site and click your ads; you earn and then next day the same visitors arrive your site through a link from your newsletter or by writing your blog address directly on the browser and click your ads again, this time you earn nothing because Google is clever and knows everything with the help of cookies. Let me explain, when any visitors clicks your Adsense ads, Google install cookies in his computer so next day when the same visitors arrive your site and click again then Google easily identify this matter and gives no earning for that click. Many Google Adsense users asked me that why they are not earning even they have got numerous clicks, this is because of the returning visitors clicking your ads (or your friends clicking in hope that you can earn).
Any way let me stick to the topic “How to increase traffic to your blog or to your website?”
I have said beside going for advertisement there are also many methods and steps to increase your blog’s visitors and those steps were:
Step no.1: Write a worthy post and by heart.
Write every post of your blog with your heart i.e. with great enthusiasm and interest so that it can became a worthy reading post. Just like good wine can be recognized by its color a good post can be recognized by its starting line. Visitors were really a busy person, they do not have time to read your whole post completely, and they do just like scanning with eyes. They read just first few sentence and leave but if in this first few sentences they find something they are looking for then definitely they will stop and read.
Your post should contain good information related to the topic of your post and should be rich in keywords. For example if you are writing on a topic “how to earn money” then make sure you enter the word “earn money” often; this is one of the trick to get rank better in search engine. By doing this whenever a person search for something like ‘how to earn money’ then your blog address may shows to his search result (This is because your blog post has got that keyword- earn money).
Secondly do not write short post, i.e. post contains merely 3 or 4 hundreds words; make it with minimum 1000 words. Remember more words means more keywords. Short post with little to offer the reader is sure to fail.
Step no.2: Mind title and description of your blog.
Title and description of your blog is most important, like keywords good title and blog description helps to rank better in search result. If you are blogging on blogger.com or blogspot.com then you can notice Labels and Blog archive for every post of the blog, this labels and archive can be used as blog title. Give a good and catchy title (Labels and archive) to every post and remember to insert keywords in each title. You can see this blog of mine as an example, the labels and blog archive is rich with keywords and is catchy to attract visitors’ attention.
While starting a new blog on blogger.com you will be asked to give title and description of your blog during that time mention a good title and give short description of your blog. Your description and title should be such that it should match with every post of your blog. For this blog of mine I have given such description that it matches with every post and the title; you can view it on your browser.
Step no.3: Put your comment to others’ blog.
Visit others’ blogs related to yours blog’s type and put your comments. This is one of the best ways to increase your blog’s traffic with unique visitors. Do visit someone’s blog and put good comment on it along with your own blog’s address, so that visitors on that blog can read your comment and may come to your blog through your blog address. This really helps and it is like participating in blog’s community. This may be time consuming but is one of the best methods to increase your traffic. Remember if you don’t like to visit others blog and comment then how can you expect someone others to visit your blog and comments.
Note: do not disable comment features in your blog; visitors’ comment on your blog can helps you to understand the visitors’ reaction and worth of your post.
Step no.4: Join social network and bookmarking site and submit their directories. There are many social networks who welcome you and your knowledge to share with others. Beside twitter and facebook you can join some worthy social bookmarking website where you can submit your blog or best blog post in their directories and can really get good numbers of visitors as time elapsed. Social bookmarking sites receive huge traffic and visitors decide which posts are the best. so while submitting your post to social bookmarking site submit only the good or top one so that visitors can rate your post, more rating your post get more visitors it will attract.

• Reddit.com
• Fark.com
• Yahoo buzz
• Simply.com and many more you can find out in your search box.
Step no.4: Do regular update and promise your visitors for more good information.
If your blog have good informational content then visitors will not only read but also bookmark your site to revisit again. But what if they visit again your site and see the same old things again and again; definitely they will remove your site from their bookmark and will never come back. So to avoid this circumstance do regular update of your site. Write and post good article atleast once in every week in your blog. Once you do this visit your twitter page and write what you have just putted in your blog so that people who are following you in twitter can know that you have just updated your blog and it is time for them to visit your blog again. This regular update of your blog not only attracts your old visitors but also helps to rank better in search engine.
Step no.5: Do link exchange and share visitors.
Link exchange is a good method to increase site traffic; it is like sharing visitors among each other (with other bloggers). Link exchange is putting your site link on someone else’s site and in lieu you put theirs link in your site. For link exchange you can visit site which is related to your site, i.e. have same topic and subject and can request the admin to put your site link on his site so that you can put his link in your site, if accepted then you can start exchanging link. This way you can both have each other’s visitors and this method also help to rank better in search result because of the search robot discovering your site link from others’ site.
Well, above mentioned five steps were the best methods to not only attract visitors or traffic but also helps to rank better in search result. There are more ideas and steps to increase the site traffic which you can gradually understand fully as day by day you gain experience. Till then this is all I can share with you.
